Yokohama Tire Recalls

The Yokohama tire company manufactures a variety of tires for different types of vehicles. While they are a leading manufacturer, they have also issued a fair number of recalls over the years. Addressing potentially defective tires is important because they can create hazards for motorists and ultimately cause serious accidents with physical damage and bodily injuries.

Issued Recalls and Complaints Involving Yokohama Tires

A search of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website indicates a number of issued recalls on Yokohama tires, and a high number of complaints on other models that have not been recalled as of yet.

  • Avid Touring S: Recall in 2012 for certain Avid Touring S tires for cracking and air loss.
  • RY023: Recall in 2005 because the rubber compound used in the tire’s shoulder pad component was not specified and could degrade due to overall durability.
  • RY215: Recall issued in 2013 due to missing DOT data information regarding load and inflation information; without the load information, vehicle owners could overload the tire which could result in tire failure.
  • RY587, RY617, and TY517: Like the RY023, the RY587, RY617, and TY517 were recalled in 2005 for missing rubber compound specification which could result in a vehicle crash.

There are a number of complaints involving models like All Season Radials wherein consumers complained of defective valve stems, unexplained blowouts, and other failures.

Compensation Types for Defective Yokohama Tires

Even if a Yokohama tire was not part of a published recall, if it is defective and caused an accident, you can pursue reimbursement for your damages. Product liability cases are relatively similar to a standard personal injury case, but there are additional parties involved.

When it comes to compensation, some of what you are eligible to recover in a products liability claim includes:

  • Medical expenses: Retain copies of your medical bills and treatment costs, as if the tire manufacturer is held liable, you could be entitled to reimbursement.
  • Property damage: You are eligible to seek compensation for any property damage or personal property loss you sustained due to a defective tire.
  • Pain and suffering: There are some instances where you can ask for compensation related to the pain and suffering you sustained from the accident, often called non-economic damages.
  • Loss of earnings: In the event you lost any time off work, or it caused a reduction in your earning potential, you can also seek compensation.

Retaining a Defective Tire Attorney

It’s important to speak with a defective tire attorney if you or a loved one was involved in an accident that you suspect is related to a defective tire. Tire manufacturers have a duty and responsibility to produce safe products that are reliable and won’t present a hazard to the consumers who purchase and use them. In the even a Yokohama or other tire fails, the manufacturer needs to be held accountable.
